Crafty Kobba scratched
The highly-rated Southland colt, Crafty Kobba, has been scratched from the John Brandon Flying Mobile Stakes at Addington Raceway on Saturday. The son of Timely Knight was a major disappointment in the Tanqueray Stakes at Gore on Saturday and he has been under veterinary attention since then. If a satisfactory report on his condition is available early next week, there is every chance that he will compete in the John Brandon New Zealand Derby on Easter Saturday. The scratching of Crafty Kobba enables Lord Louie to re-enter the field for
Saturday. A decision about a driver for Lord Louie will be made this evening. Jack Smolensk!, who has handled the gelding in his latest racing, was suspended until after April 19 after an inquiry at Washdyke last Saturday. Smolenski has applied for a review of the penalty and this will be heard in Christchurch late this afternoon.
Smolensk! would normally drive Memphis, Adios Trick, Black Soil, Doncella, Hard Cash, Harvest Gold, and King Aurea as well as Lord Louie at Addington on Saturday. Should his request for a review of penalty be
turned down, new drivers will have to be found for all of them. Nathan Tryax and Devilman have been scratched from the Bryndwr Stakes on Saturday, enabling Rebel Prince and In Control to reenter the field. Nathan Tryax is down to contest the Image International Sires’ Stakes Series Semi-final at Invercargill on Saturday, a race in which Canterbury stables will also be represented by Nardinski, Risdon Boy, Westburn King, and Woodsey, while Folie Bergere, Guard of Honour, Irish Byrd, and Lockout are emergencies for the event.
