Carmaker trial to go ahead
NZPA-Reuter Los Angeles The last big roadblock in the way of the carmaker John de Lorean’s cocaine conspiracy trial was cleared yesterday when a judge denied a motion for dismissal due to prejudicial pretrial publicity. Federal Judge Robert Takasugi’s ruling opened the way for the much delayed trial to start on Tuesday, more than 16 months after de Lorean, aged 59, was arrested by F. 8.1. agents on drug charges. Lawyers for de Lorean had argued that he could not receive a fair trial because of the huge amount of publicity in local newspapers and on radio stations.
