Business firms warned

The police have warned business firms to be wary of requests from Europe to join an international telex directory on payment of a fee of almost $lOOO. The Auckland police fraud squad said yesterday that firms with telex machines had received unsolicited invoices from Lichtenstein. Unsolicited invoices are illegal in New Zealand. Four Christchurch companies have also approached the police regarding invoices from the same Lichtenstein firm, World Communication Systems. Detective Senior-Sergeant Peter Doone, of Auckland, said the firm was asking payments of $U5630.50 (SNZ96O) for inclusion in the directory, called • “World Telex Edition.” “Businesses should be wary of remitting payments on the strength ’of such invoices,” he said.
