Record coin
A nineteenth century Japanese coin has been auctioned for a record-breaking 295,000 francs ($55,636) at the Hotel Druout auction salon in Paris. Bidding for the 20-yen gold coin, struck in 1877 during the reign of the Emperor Mutsu Hito, rose quickly to break all European records. In two days of bidding presided over by a French master-numismatist, Jacques Vinchori, pieces valued at more than SUSI million were sold. — Paris.
