Fewer strikes this year
PA Wellington Relative industrial peace existed for the first four months this year compared with the January-April period last year, latest Statistics Department figures reveal. Provisional figures show 68 strikes for the first four months this year, only slightly more than half the
123 in the same period last year. The cost of strikes to production was also slashed heavily, from 206,722 working hours to 84,496. The wages loss for workers this year was down two-thirds, provisional figures revealing $6.1 million was lost against $17.2 million in the 1982 period.
