Taipan II dead

PA Wellington The American-bred Taipan 11, a son of Bold Ruler and one of New Zealand’s top sires in recent years, died on Friday night after the rupture of a thigh artery. The stallion, bred in 1963, was based at Akarana Stud, Howick, with companion sires Uncle Remus, Diplomatic Star, Pikehall and Harbor Prince. He was fully booked for this season at a fee of $lO,OOO. Taipan II was an immediate success after arriving in New Zealand and left many good winners. Best among them were Mop and Tang, “Fillies of the Year” in 1975-76 and 1978-79 respectively. Taipan II was champion sire of two-year-olds 1974-75 and twice second.
