Castle Hill road work approved
Wellington reporter Approval to work on the main Arthur’s Pass highway near the site of the new Castle Hill Village has been given by the National Roads Board. The village is being built 95km west of Christchurch and will accommodate 2200 people, only a few of whom will be permanent residents. Access to the village subdivision will involve one intersection on to the State highway. The local streets
will be built by the Malvern County Council. The developer’s contractor is building the local reading, and some tapering work is needed on the State highway as part of this. Under section 129 of the Public Works Act, 1981, the written permission of the board is needed for such work to be done. The board has now given this permission, subject to standards approved by the District Commissioner of Works in Christchurch.
