Post office closing
Sir,—lt has been noted that the North New Brighton Post Office was allowed to get to the stage when it could no longer be considered safe to operate. With profits running into the millions of dollars it is hard to understand why this public service was allowed to reach that state. With that service withdrawn, the elderly retired, infirm, or sick people are the ones who suffer. Now these folk need an extra bus section. What are those in positions of authority going to do about their needs? They do not need a committee set up to investigate, they want help now. We the 60s Up Christchurch Branch support their need. If one public service makes millions, some of that should be used to support another public service which cannot make millions. Public service means just that — a service to the public. — Yours, etc., PEGGY RIACH, Branch chairperson, 60s Up Christchurch. March 28, 1983.
