Govt Kiwi stock sales top $42M
PA Wellington Sales of the Government’s Kiwi savings stock are rocketing. In the past three days, the Reserve Bank sold stock worth $42 million, and it thinks the real total is probably even higher. The chief accountant, Mr Owen Scott, said this total did not include sales made by numerous accoutants, post offices and others who had not yet forwarded their applications to the Reserve Bank. It was believed these would boost the total substantially. The grand total of the stock, on sale for only eight days, is $55 million. At the same time, sales of inflation-proof bonds have passed $1 billion. Mr Scott said last evening that bonds worth $lOl2 million had been issued.
