Wellington reporter A grant of $25,000 from Golden Kiwi lottery funds will help roof the Nelson skating rink. The chairman of the Lottery Board, Mr Highet, said that the grant would come from the Local Authorities Community Facilities Fund, financed by the lottery proceeds.

The community had raised $60,000 in cash and given $BBOO in voluntary labour towards the project, Mr Highet said. The Nelson

City Council had given bridging finance and a mortgage of $48,000. The skating rink and seating area would be roofed, so that the rink could be used in all weathers, Mr Highet said. The clubrooms would be enlarged, and dressing rooms built. More and better seating would also be added.

The rink was proving a popular fun place for discos, live bands, indoor sports, and<dancing as well as skating.
