Derby put aside

Derby, which has won five of his six starts this season, will not be on hand for the $30,000 Prince and Princess of Wales Cup at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Royal meeting on April 27. The four-year-old son of El Patron was put aside by his trainer, Richard Brosnan, in mid-February, and will not race again this season.

“He will be best served by time,” Brosnan said yesterday.

Derby has compiled an outstanding record in a limited career to date. His nine career starts have rseulted in seven wins and two placings, including wins in the Queen’s Birthday Stakes at Ashburton last season and the T.H.C. Four-Year-Old Championship Final at Forbury Park, in January.
