Kaiapoi clubs may be charged ground rentals

Kaiapoi's sports clubs may have to pay for the use of their grounds. The Kaiapoi Borough Council's reserves and harbour committee has recommended that the council meet the sports groups who use council grounds to discuss ground rentals.

According to the Mayor of Kaiapoi, Mr H. W. Cumberland, some agreement on grounds cost is needed.

An earlier suggestion from the council’s electrical engineer, Mr M. G. Ruddenklau, that sports clubs be charged for the irrigation of playing fields? was not well supported.

It was proposed that the meeting be held on March 1.

Reserve dropped?

Kaiapoi may lose one of its reserves.

The committee recomi mended that consideration be given to the proposed subdivision of the Kirk Street Reserve.

It approved public notification of its intention to revoke part of the reserve designation.

The committee decided that part of the land was surplus to the area's needs and that finance from the sale of the property could be used to buy land that was more suitable.
