Musketeers out in the open

Sixty actors, three horses and a'dog all have parts in the Harlequin Players' openair production of "The Three Musketeers." which will be performed at Mona Vale from Saturday.

The production, which will run until February 27. is the Players' fifth open-air production. The group revived the tradition of outdoor theatre five years ago after a lapse of 20 vears.

brought to Christchurch to direct the play. He dramatised the play first in 1961. when it was performed by the Phoenix Theatre at the Provincial Council Chambers. Mr de Malmanche has revised the play for the Harlequin Players' production. Heading the cast of 60 actors is Dale Grey as d'Artagnan. the hero, and Elizabeth Robinson as the villainess. de Winter will be driven on the set in a carriage. One of the horses used in the production is a champion white Arab stallion. There will also be sword fights and dance sequences. Performances will start at 8.30 p.m. each day during the two-week season, except for Mondays. The Players recommend that play-goers take their own cushion and rug.
