NZOG activities at high level

The field operations of New Zealand Oil and Gas, Ltd, are currently at a high level of activity with both marine and land-based seismic surveys being conducted simultaneously, the chairman, Dr J. Watt, announced. The seismic survey ship Geco Kappa has completed a detailed second round of seismic totalling 377 linekilometres in the prospective licence are PPL 38113 adjacent to the Maui Gas Field. This survey is the final seismic survey in PPL 38113 before planned drilling by NZOG and its joint venture partner, Petrocorp, using the

semi-submersible drilling rig Benreoch in December this year. The Benreoch is due to arrive off Taranaki in June.

The Geco Kappa is cur-

rently operating for NZOG in the hew licence area PPL 38087 situated immediately offshore Raglan Harbour, and is halfway through shooting 375 line-kilometres of seismic. “PPL 38087 was granted by the Minister of Energy on January 1, after the relinquishment by NZOG of the deep water licence PPL 38110. This licence was relinquished after several attempts made last year to shoot seismic failed, because of technical difficulties,” Dr Watt said. Additional marine seismic surveys the NZOG group has been involved in, through its joint-ventures in recent weeks, include 290 line-kilo-metres in PPL 38116 (offshore Patea), operated by Petrocorp, and 500 line-kilo-metres of seismic in PPL

38206 — west of Stewart Island, operated by Seahawk Oil. The seismic survey ship Western Odyssey is due to commence shooting 850 linekilometres of seismic shortly in PPL 38204 (south of Dunedin) for the Husky Oil/NZOG joint venture. Meanwhile, two land seismic operations are underway in Westland; Seismograph Service, Ltd, of England, is conducting a helicopter supported operation for NZOG using surface explosives in PPL 38075 (north of Lake Brunner). The survey totals 38 kilometres and ties into earlier work by Petrocorp. This licence ' area includes the Kotuku oil seep and the recent Kokiri well drilled in 1980.
