Filly’s fast mile

Special correspondent Invercargill Honkin Del attracted much attention at Wyndham on Saturday when the two-year-old filly recorded 2min 2.79 s for a mobile mile, winning by seven lengths without being extended. Driven by Henry Skinner, Honkin Del set all of the pace and looked to have plenty in reserve at the line. A filly from the first crop sired by the Albatross horse, Honkin Andy, she is out of

Ceredel, by Armbro De! from Ceremonial, a close relation of the double New Zealand Cup winner, Haughty. She is trained at Tapanui by her part-owner, John Lischner. In second place was Victory Boy, a colt by Lordship from First Victory, which finished a length and a half in front of North Fleet, a filly by Sir Dalrae from Fleetmae. Both Victory Boy and Northfleet are trained at Wyndham by Bud Baynes.
