Sir,—Regarding Joanne Burke’s letter deploring our . Government’s salute to Leonid Brezhnev, I cut out a Re- , porter’s Diary note recently on our trade with Russia. We have a 20-1 trade imbalance with ; Communist Russia, our exports there totalling between $3OO ■ million and $4OO million annu- , ally. The Russian debt is . around $5O billion, so one won- , ders how payment is being ; made. To export that much to a country that, first is bent on a campaign of world communist domination and, second, has no hope of paying us is almost insanity. I have long opposed trade or relations with Communist Russia and China be- , cause of the depravity of the > Communist dictatorship and , because of the real threat to ; freedom it presents.
