Wattie falls sharply

Big falls continued to be incurred by some leading issues on an active, weak New Zealand sharemarket yesterday. Wattie stood out on an 8c loss, and others to ease included Andas down 10c ex dividend, Brierley, and Southland Frozen Meat. R. and W. Hellaby fell 3c on the news of its big losses because of the closing of the Shortland works. There were no sales of Dalhoff and King shares after news that the company may cease trading, but it was quoted sell at 6c bn the Christchurch Invercargill Stock Exchange. Among the 10 issues in the rises were the ANZ Banking Group, Fletcher Challenge, Lion Breweries, and U.E.B. The N.Z.U.C. index lost 3.70 points to 604.19.
