T. and G. investment in property development
The T. and G. Society was established from an Australian friendly society, lodge which had decided to start a life assurance scheme for. its members. After seven years, the society incorporated in 1876 to form the Australasian Temperance and General Mutual Life Assurance Society, Ltd. A New Zealand office was opened in 1903. In keeping with, the times, the name has been shortened and the Society is now known as the T. and G. Mutual Life Society, Ltd. Records show that in the 1880’s, the original idea of a purely temptppce society had been abandoned but that a separate section for abstainers was estab-
lished. T. and G’s major objective has always been to provide. the greatest possible, benefit for its policy holders and their, dependants. To ensure this, it has carried out an investment policy that provides satisfactory returns coupled with security. Through, such an investment policy, T. and G. has made a notable contribution to New Zealand’s development. To give the highest possible return for policy holders and. protect their . interests against rising inflation, it has developed an investment pattern' that not only ensures a. safe-and balanced return but benefits almost every aspect
of New Zealand life. It has invested millions of .dollars in debentures to assist in the development of industry, including such diverse industries as carpet and clothing, packaging and paper manufacturing, forestry and fertiliser, breweries and hotels,.land development and shopping complexes, major office blocks, indus- - trial parks and residential developments. Through its investments in Government and local body loans, it has given help to • hospitals, harbour, installations, schools, roads, airports and other .amenities of national importance.
T. and G., has made — and will continue to make — a notable contribution to New '■'Zealand’s development and way of life.
