Booth licence denied
Moves to extend the Town Hall restaurant to the first floor ; may have been thwarted for the lack of a booth licence. Plans to extend the restaurant upstairs during December, for Christmas luncheons, may be dropped because the Licensing Control Commission has not issued the restaurant with a booth licence, the Christchurch Town Hall Board of Management was told yesterday. The Town Hall's manager, Mr J. D. Carson, said he
would now look into other ways of expanding the facilities for luncheons. Publicity Promoting the Town Hall to the public was the subject of a marketing proposal presented to the board. Mr Carson’s suggestions to attract customers outlined a range of incentives for bookings. These included rent reductions, brochures, meal vouchers, business breakfasts, promotional packs, and collaboration with the Mel-
bourne Tourist Authority. Mr Carson also suggested that the board launch a restaurant theatre, a show night, and bring in overseas artists. In this manner, Mr Carson hopes to promote wider use of the complex and sponsorship of artists. Attracting people into the general Town Hall area is another aim. Suggestions of evening and lunchtime performances on the terraces were also put to the board.
