Hull hits Kangaroos

NZPA Hull The Challenge Cup holder, Hull, helped by the New Zealand test trio of Gary Kemble, Dane O’Hara and James Leuluai, came within an ace of upsetting the undefeated Australian rugby league side in a tensionpacked match at the Boulevard Ground yesterday. Buoyed by the euphoric support of a capacity crowd of 20,000, Hull had streaked to a 7-0 lead at half-time and it was only the magnificent fighting comeback of the near test strength Kangaroos which staved off the first defeat of their long English tour. With their 13-7 victory, the Australians broke the previ-

ous longest running sequence of 11 tour wins set by the 1933-34 Kangaroos, and now have three games left to become the first touring side to leave Britain unbeaten. The plan to play Australia’s likely' second test side just three days before the Wigan international looked to rebound as Hull crashed into the Australians in a fearsome opening and there will be some players to check before the test side is announced today. . Both teams suffered injuries. Greg Brentnall could miss the second test' because of a leg injury and Leuluai went off with a suspected broken jaw in the second half.
