Third title for Dodson
One of the country’s most experienced marksmen, John Dodson, of Blenheim, won his third Canterbury fullbore rifle shooting championship at West Melton last weekend. Dodson was successful in 1980 and his first victory had been 14 years previously. The winning margin was slender. At the end of two days of competition, he had a point advantage over the
national Army champion, “Rags” Owens, a North Island competitor. From a possible total of 350, Dodson had an aggregate of 339.33 and Owens tallied 338.30. Geoff Marshall, of Malvern, finished third over all after having led on the first day, and another regular competitor, Ivan Pask, of Kaituna, took fourth.
