Christchurch buildings
Sir,—l was shocked beyond words when I saw the picture of the destruction of the National Bank of New Zealand. It is too' late to do anything about that but my thoughts go to the old “Art Gallery” later known as the C.S.A. which means nothing to most of us who knew it in its great days. Though a member then of the Society of Arts I do not’ know why we were forced out. of it, but can we not still fight to save the building. “The Press” does something. in showing those good drawings of round and about Christchurch and one week had a drawing of the exquisite carvings over the entrance to the building. In the past it was the centre of so much besides its own annual show, important functions, many picture exhibitions and gatherings of all kinds and of course great balls (it had a spring floor).—Yours, etc., D. G. HENNESSY. November 11, 1982.
