Freeze exemptions permitted
Parliamentary reporter Three Christchurch concerns are among this week's 19 successful applicants for hardship exemption from the price' freeze. They are Elm Lodge, a rehabilitation hostel which has been allowed an increase of $3 a week in boarding charges; Orana Park Trust Board, increases in admission charges of 30c for adults and 20c for children; and the management of the staff cafeteria of Duckworth Turner, Ltd,, a 10 per cent increase in food charges. For the week to November 10, 91 hardship applications were received. In the same
period 10 were declined, three were withdrawn, and 19 approved. Eighty-seven complaints were received during the period. Grocery items inspired 31 complaints, and restaurants and takeaway bars, 12. In all but two of 102 complaints investigated, prices charged were found to be in order. Commenting on the figures, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Templeton, said that the decline in the October food price index and the drop in inflation rates shown in the last Consumers Price Index, indicated that the wage-price freeze was working-
