Six artists show

The work of six different artists will be on display in an exhibition at the C.S.A. Gallery which opens today. Wellington husband and wife team, Roy Cowan and Juliet Peter, will show some of their recent ceramic pieces. A range of pieces has been chosen to show the developing themes - in the couple’s work. Miss Peter is a well-known printmaker and some prints and a painting will be included in the exhibition. It is the second time that printmaker Graeme Stradley has exhibited at the C.S.A. Gallery. His first series of prints showed scenes from Central Otago. His second series is a sixprint journey through one day. The prints show images taken from Katherine Mansfield’s story “At the Bay.” Mr Stradling’s intention was to capture some of the more descriptive passages of this much-loVed work. :, ' Angela Burns, of Dunedin, paints her immediate surroundings including people and has called her exhibition of -paintings “Windows and

Winter Trees.” She combines her painting with a job as a museum curator in Dunedin, and has exhibited before at the C.S.A. in a group exhibition. Pauline Trengrove’s paintings are influenced by the Port Hills of her home town of Christchurch. They depict the drought and new growth seen oh the Port Hills, although there is no desire to attempt a pictorial representation of the actual landscape. Brian Thompson is a Yorkshire-born architect who practised in ‘ Papua New Guinea, West Africa and Fiji before moving to' New Zealand. He lived in Summer and the seascapes of the area' can be seen in his paintings. Also included in his work are scenes of Christchurch.: Mr Thompson . and his. family' have returned to Yorkshire where he is dividing his time between architecture and painting. The paintings in the exhibition were left with a friend in Christchurch who decided to exhibit them on Mr Thompson’s behalf.
