Maximum allowance payment agreed

By paying maximuni allowances to , Riccarton Borough councillors, individuals could use their discretion on how much to accept, the council’s finance and bylaws committee agreed last evening. The committee recommended that the new annual maximum mayoral allowance of $B7OO should be paid, and that, .the maximum of $B7O be paid to the Deputy Mayor. At present the Mayor, Mr R. W.J. Harrington, accepts $4OOO of- the $6550 that the council '5 allow him. The Deputy Mayor, Mr R. S. Lester, accepts $5OO of the $655 allowance. The other new' maximum allowances recommended were $2l a meeting for committee chairmen who do not receive an annual allowance, and $l6 a meeting for councillors.
