D.S.I.R. costs on drunks

PA Wellington Convicted drunken drivers can in future expect to pay for the D.S.LR. analysis of the blood sample. Ministry of Transport prosecutors throughout the country will soon be instructed to seek the D.S.I.R. analyst fee of $32 as part of their, normal application for costs. In Invercargill on April 16, a judge awarded these types of costs for the first time.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Transport legal section in Wellington said he thought that Invercargill had "jumped the gun in a sense, but we don’t have any control over their prosecutors.’’
