Car sought after pedestrians hurt
The Ministry of Transport is seeking witnesses to an apparent hit-and-run accident in which two pedestrians were injured in Ferry Road, outside Woolston Park, about 6.45 p.m. yesterday. One ot the pedestrians was admitted to hospital with suspected leg injuries. The other was also admitted, but was discharged. Senior Traffic Sergeant S. Burt, of the Ministry's Christchurch office, said last evening the Ministry was seeking witnesses to the accident and particularly information about a white Mark IV Cortina station waggon which he said was last seen immediately after the collision travelling along Ferry Road. towards Sumner. The accident was one - of four in a busy spell for St John Ambulance and Ministry officers during the late
afternoon and early evening yesterday. Traffic was heavy with motorists returning from the Easter holiday break.
A motor-cyclist suffered moderate injuries when he fell from his machine on the Akaroa highway at Motukarara at 3.15 p.m. A woman, aged 56, suffered moderate head and chest injuries when the car in which she was travelling struck a pole at the junction of Wairakei Road and Galway Avenue at 4.40 p.m. two persons suffered slight injuries in a two-car collision in Opawa Road, near Wilsons Road, at 5.20 p.m.
Three persons were treated at hospital for cuts and bruises suffered when the car in which they were travelling struck a pole at the junction of Mairehau Road and Greenhaven Drive. Burwood, at 8.15 p.m.
