Air N.Z. engine checks doubled

PA Auckland Air New Zealand will

double the, frequency of special inspections on four of its DClOs, after a new American order aimed at protecting the-aircraft from engine breakups. The Federal Aviation Administration told American users of a General Electric engine on Friday to increase, their checks to detect dangerous cracks. While their order applied to CF6 engines used in the United States to power Eruo-pean-built Airbuses, McDonnell Douglas DClOsand Boeing 7475, foreign users were almost certainly expected to follow suit. An Air New Zealand spokesman, Mr. VenT Mitchell, said yesterday the directive had been anticipated by his company and arrangements were complete for increasing the number of inspections. These would be done every 750 flights or twice as often as is now required.
