Provincial Buildings Board chairman
The member of Parliament for Yaldhurst, Mr M. A. Connelly, has been appointed chairman of the- executive committee of the Canterbury Provincial Buildings Board. The board was set up in 1928 and comprises of members of Parliament whose electorates are in Canterbury or Westland. It is chaired by the Minister of Lands. Legislation was passed in 1971 transferring the full control of , the Provincial Buildings complex to the board. Mr Connelly was chairman of the executive committee of the board at the time. He said then that the
buildings would remain as evidence of a facet of our constitutional history which existed a century ago. The board has, in part, been responsible for the restoration of the original wooden council chamber, the stone council chamber, another stone building, styled “Bellamy's,” and the wooden administrative complex. Mr Connelly was appointed chairman last week on the retirement of Mr E. S. F. Holland, the former member of Parliament for Fendalton. The appointment was made by the Minister of Lands (Mr Elworthy).
