Argentina will ‘pay dearly'
NZPA London A secret report by Argentina’s intelligence services estimates that the country will pay dearly for its show of force over the Falkland Islands, the “Sunday Times" reported yesterday. According to the document, which the newspaper quoted, “national union was obtained at the cost of international isolation and an armed confrontation with Great Britain which will inevitably place our country in one of the most difficult moments in its history." British reprisals “could provoke the fall of the present. military government of
President Galtieri. and drag down the military junta,” the report said, naming General Alfredo Saint Jean as General Galtieri’s probable sue- 1 cessor. "A steep deterioration in relations with the United States (because of the Falklands invasion) has been followed by growing support from the Soviet bloc” which can only embarrass a regime so fervently anti-Marxist, the newspaper said. According to the document. President Reagan told General Galtieri during ' a telephone conversation to “remember , that England is our ally."
