New owners for hotel

PA Auckland The Cook Islands Government has taken a 60 per cent interest in the Rarotongan hotel, with four other companies each taking a 10 per cent shareholding. They are United Travel Services, Ltd, Scholes Oakley Travel, Ltd, and South Pacific Travel Holdings, Ltd (all New Zealand companies) and Islands in the Sun, Ltd, which is based in California.

The changeover in ownership came after the New Zealand Government and Air New Zealand pulled out, saying the hotel was uneconomic. Mr Barry Fenton, managing director of United Travel Services, said the new company would soon offer package deals giving New Zealanders the lowest price eight-day overseas holiday available.
