Comment applied to United Council
The Canterbury United Council must co-ordinate and lead existing organisations in order to promote regional progress, said Cr M. O. Cleland, of the Kaiapoi Borough Council, yesterday. . Cr Cleland said a report on page 12 of “The Press” yesterday had incorrectly said that the borough council’s town-planning and library committee had accused the Canterbury Promotion Coun-
cil of inactivity. In fact, the Promotion Council was doing a good job, Cr Cleland said. Remarks made at the meeting referred to the United Council, not to the Promotion Council. At the meeting, Cr Cleland said that unless the United Council “... does get going and stop infighting, we are not going to have Canterbury progress at all.”
