National Development Act

Sir,—Surprisingly little has been said in the pre-election debates on one issue which can determine our society’s future and which best characterises National’s philosophy — the National Development Act and its amendments. Undoubtedly, should the present Government be re-elected, we would see further amendments enacted to satisfy capital’s (especially trans-national capital’s) appetites. Another three years would see this sinister act grow into a monster — a monster whose favourite dish is democracy.Labour, in keeping with its traditions, opposes the act-and is committed to repeal. — Yours, etc., K. FEA. November 24, 1981.
