Final night of ‘Jocko’

Tonight on One sees the final episode of Television New Zealand’s drama series “Jocko”, and China (Desmond Kelly) seems set to gasp his last. An accident and its aftermath leave him dan-

gerously ill in hospital and Jocko (Bruce Allpress) seeking solace in the company of a nun. What can be happening to our previously incorrigible, happy-go-lucky heroes? On China's future, the producer, Mark de Friest, is non-committal. He affirms however that there will be a new series filmed next year. This final episode. “Two’s Company”, proved something of a nightmare for the film crew on the job. “We had a few tense moments,” says de Friest. “The stuntman staging the crash lost control of the truck; the horse-float on the back jackknifed and began to tip, and the whole kaboodle was careering towards the camera.”

While most of the crew fled for their lives, the cameraman, Wayne Williams, stuck to his post, filming the thing as it came towards him.

“He was lucky,” says de Friest, “and we are lucky, because we’ve been able to use the footage and it’s about the best piece of action we’ve ever had!”

De Friest is delighted with public response to “Jocko” and looks forward to working on next year's series.
