Complaint to Ombudsman

A Fernside dairy farmer, Mr M. J. Foster, will ask the Ombudsman to investigate his complaint about the purchase of a Loburn farm by a farm advisory officer of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Mr Foster has said he had intended to buy a 50 hectare property, and had consulted a farm advisory officer, Mr R. F. Y. Kent, at Rangiora about the purchase, and about a budget for the farm.

Mr Foster believes that Mr Kent had an advantage in bidding for the property as a result of their consultation. Mr Foster has had a letter from the Ministry saying the matter would be investigated by the New Zealand Institute of Agricultural Science.

"1 tnmK i nave no choice but to go to the Ombudsman at this stage,” said Mr Foster, who is not happy with the Ministry’s answer.
