High stakes at Franklin
PA Auckland The Franklin Racing Club plans to hold a meeting next October with eight races each worth at least $20,000 and another two with consolation prizes of $lO,OOO apiece.
The meeting, which will be known as the Sires’ Championship $20,000, could offer the highest total prize-money in New Zealand. The club will fund this ambitious programme through a scheme unique in New Zealand.
The eight races, for all classes including maidens, will be on a sire nomination basis, at a fee of $2OO. These entries will close on
February 1 with late nominations, at $3OO, allowed until March 1.
Only the progeny of those sires nominated will be allowed to race. Entries of racehorses will close on March 22 at a fee of $5O. There will be a first payment of $3O on August 30, a second of $2O on September 22 with acceptances closing on October 11, five days before the meeting. There will be a $3OOO prize for the nominator of the sire of each winner on the programme.
The Auckland Racing Club will pay stakes of $215,000 on Auckland Cup day on January 1.
