El Regale impressively wins Addington trial

El Regale looked fit and raced accordingly, winning the feature heat at the Addington trials yesterday. The El Patron four-year-old sat without cover for the last 1800 m, was sent to the front 1000 m out, and held the lead tenaciously to the post. The chestnut came his last 800 m in 60.75, the final 400 m in 31.35, pacing the 2600 m in 3min 265. He held out strong late bids from both Genesis, half a length back second, and Frosty Lopez, a similar distance back third. Genesis went a fine race for his placing. He was left three wide from the 1300 m and kept up a big run to push El Regale close at the post. Winning Lass, four places back on the rails made ground for fourth, but three lengths from the first three with Time’s Up, the early pacemaker, fifth. Vienna Charm was an impressive winner of. the C 3 and C 4 heat, beating the Geraldine- candidates, Take Care and Wee Junior. Back and wide for the last 1000 m, Vienna Charm finished solidly to beat Take Care by half a.length in 3min 30.85, the last ’ 800m’ in, 61.9 and final 400 m-in 31.‘45.

Wee Junior, which led for the last 2doom, was run down late and held.-sthird only a nose away. '• . Take Care and Wee Junior are race rivals in the President’s Handicap at Geraldine.

Ansett showed how unlucky she was not to get. a start at the Geraldine meeting; easily winning the second heat for. Cl and C2 pacers. The Transport Chip filly trailed -three back on the outer, but sprinted best to beat .Pride of Beau and Young Tala . comfortably in 3min 30.75, the final’, 800 m in 61.3 s and the last 400 m "in 31.25.

Joe Charm, drawn in close in the Raukapuka Handicap, the first treble leg at Geraldine, was an impressive fourlengths winner of the first trial for C2 pacers. The .Good. Chase stallion sat without cover but had plenty in reserve, winning in 3min 32.25. Sir Ron made ground wide.out for second with Spry Boy-third. Gemini Byrd, a candidate for the Orari Challenge Stakes at Geraldine led for the last 1300 m to' win the

second maiden .trial by two and a half lengths in a slow 3min 36.25. Rustic Sfln,. which trailed on the fails finished on for second, • with - Watbro Rob a half length back third. Gold Chase was a second slower in winning the first maiden-trial by a length and a quarter from King’s Royal and Track King.

Happy Edition, an attractive colt by Lasting Fame from Gay Spinster led virtually throughout and dashed over his last 800 m in 62s to win the two-year-old heat. The youngster beat Ravena (Noodlum—La Romola), a fast finisher- for second, by half a length with Sir Orkan (Nardin’s Byrd— My Venus) a promising third. Four Ply led throughout and was untroubled to win the : maiden trotters heat by two and a half lengths from Money Order, which finished boldly after breaking at the start.

Trinity towered above his rivals in the second sweepstake event, leading from start to finish in 3min 28.65, sprinting his last 800 m in 59.55. .

Modesty Blaise led the rest of ■ the field in; three and a half lengths back with Prime Advice third a neck away. Morgan Jarifes, handy on the rails, finished best to win the first sweepstake event in a slower 3min 32.65. beating Rosewood Chase narrowly. . Love Song made ground well along the rail for third;. Lyn’s Pride and Sport Fidelis dead-heated in the trotters sweepstake in 3min 39.75.

Eldamar was the best of 15 pacers to qualify yesterday. Eldamar trailed the pacemaking Matai Bromac throughout and finished easily to win by three lengths in a ’ smart 3min 12.65. Matai Bromac (3min 13.25) and Miss Lizfagen (3min 14.25), second and third also made the grade.

Cordon Noir and Flat Tack both showed promising ability to win their qualifying heats in good time. Cordon Noir sped clear 700 m out and held on well to win by three lenghts in 3min 14.15. El Arish finished well enough for second to also qualify in 1 3min 1475. Flat Tack led for the last | 1900 m to win by five lengths i in 3min 14.1 s also. Pretty I Lady, second home also went

under the time, in 3min 15.15.
