* ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON YOUTHANDLAW IN OUR MULTICULTURAL SOCIETY The Above Committee chaired by Mr' Hiwi Tauroa would be pleased to receive submissions concerning youth and the law. These must relate to young people under seventeen years and to the following terms of reference:— 1. Examine existing laws, procedures and practices relating to agencies and institutions as they affect young people who have offended or are at risk of offending against the law. 2. Make positive recommendations relating to these laws, procedures and practices, if they are seen to he inappropriate or inadequate, if they fail to take proper account of cultural practices -- v 3. To offer alternatives to our present r administration of justice as it relates to young people, with special reference to: <■ A. Diverting young people away from courts to community rehabilitation. ; B. Changes in the Court system. : C. Care facilities as they relate to children at risk and those in State custody. ■ r The Committee is interested in your views on - these matters.
