Employer’s plan first jobs
,PA Wellington The president of the Employers’ Federation, Mr S. W. B. Duncan, has called on employers to create “entry jobs” to bring unemployed school-leavers into the workforce. After six weeks and a half of the Government’s FirstJob Programme, 580 vacancies had been registered under the scheme and 306 schooLleavers had been placed through it. This was an encouraging start, but left' a large un-
tapped potential: other figures showed that 5500 school-leavers were unplaced at the end of March. Mr Duncan said, “I would urge employers and schoolleavers to make the most of this programme as our detailed study shows it to be an excellent scheme, with definite benefits for both groups. “We expect an upsurge in economic activity later in the year and so advise employers to increase staff levels to be ready for it.”
