Kilty Hobbs in record win
Kilty Hobbs proved that he is the best Staying dog in Canterbury with a brilliant performance-to win theCanterbury Trophy over 805 m at the on-course greyhound totalisator meeting at Queen Elizabeth II Park last evening. The son of. Old Hobbs and Riverside Sal was? one of the slowest to: leave the traps and Was still in fifth place down the front straight i for the first time. At that stage, Master Brydie had surrendered his lead to the old favourite, Lisa Havoc, and she led the field into the back straight for the second time. Master Brydie was two lengths from her and Kilty Hobbs started to stretch out stylishly. Towards the end of the back straight,'Kilty Hobbs swooped on Lisa Havoc and within 20m had put two lengths on her. He careered away in the home straight and won . in a record-breaking time of 50.02. Kilty Hobbs held the previous record at 50.49- When he won the other main distance race, the Merv Gibson trophy, earlier in the season, Lisa Havoc was a game second, but beaten on merit, and Master Brydie was in ho danger of losing third to a tired remainder.
