Prince in Washington
NZPA Washington Prince Charles has arrived in Washington on a visit to the United States amid tight security and concern about demonstrations connected with the hunger strike of jailed Irish Republican Army leader, Bobby Sands. Smiling and looking relaxed, the Prince was given a welcoming curtsy by the State Department's protocol chief, Mrs Leonore Apnenberg, when he stepped from
his Royal'Air Force VCIO jet at Andrews Air Force base outside Washington. Prince Charles flew to Washington from Caracas, Venezuela, for a three-day private stay which will in-, elude two meetings with President Reagan and the award of a special fellowship by William and Mary College iii southern Virginia. An Irish-American group
planned a demonstration, outside the British Embassy to protest against his visit and support the demand by Sands for recognition as a political prisoner. Security was tight when the Prince landed at the airport and he will be given protection similar to that of a President of the United States when he travels to Williamsburg. Virginia.
