New regulations on whitebaiting
PA Wellington New whitebait fishing regulations for the new season will help conserve the fish and provide stands, particularly on South Island West Coast rivers for full time fishermen. The Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries (Mr MacIntyre) said areas would also be designated for amateur and recreational fishermen. Those who could show that they had registered sites for the 1978. 1979, and 1980
seasons would get preference. he said. Where there was competition among those wishing to register a site there would be ballots. However, he expected that there would be enough sites for those wishing to register a temporary site for a stand.
