England criticised
NZPA London British soccer writers have rubbished England’s performance in a goalless draw against Rumania and some said it now was doubtful whether the team would make the World Cup finals in Spain next year. It would be the third time in a row that England had missed qualifying: in 1974
they missed out while Aus-j tralia qualified for the finals i in West Germany for the! first time. [ In the “Daily Express,'’! Steve Curry wrote that "Eng-1 land must'face the fact that; they may be onlookers at the. third World Cup finals in a row.”. He called the Wembley! match, “toothless, traumatic and terrible.”
