Botham sent for trial
NZPA London England’s cricket captain, lan Botham, was yesterday sent for trial at Grimsby Crown Court, accused of assaulting a sailor. . The bearded Somerset allrounder is charged with being jointly concerned with causing bodily harm to a 19-year-old Royal Navy apprentice, Steven Isbister.
Botham, aged 25, is alleged to have carried out the assault with the Scunthorpe United goal-keeper, Jose Neenan. Scunthorpe magistrates dealt with Neenan, aged 21, at an earlier hearing when he admitted assaulting Mr Isbister last year, near a night club.
