Youth house sought

The Anglican City Mission's attempt to set' up supervised housing for unemployed youths may be supported in principle by the Christchurch City Council. Housing Corporation financial help for. the project will be sought, and council housing officers will be asked to see if a council-owned property might be available. A house next to the City Mission in Hereford Street has already been sold. The City Missioner, the Rev. P. Coughlan, had hoped that property could be used for a pilot housing scheme.

Under the proposal, voung persons in a house would have specific duties and be required to attend weekly meetings. All residents, the house manager and social workers would attend the meetings.

Residents would be helped with budgeting and skill training through the mission's community education programme.

Mr Coughlan said, in a letter to the council, that the project's success would depend on adequate supervision and control.
