Pipe Major Gordon Burrows playing the lament, “The Flowers of the Forest,” at the Citizens’ Day Service in Christchurch Cathedral on Anzac Day. Mr Burrows is the pipe major for the Scottish Society Band, one of the oldest in Christchurch. Pipe bands have traditionally had a role to play in Anzac Day proceedings, formerly taking part in the parade. The playing of the lament keeps up this convention.
