Pacific churchmen oppose tour PA Auckland Forty Pacific Island Church leaders have unanimously condemned the proposed Springbok tour, according to the Auckland regional secretary of the National Council of Churches, Dr Alan Brash. Dr Brash detailed the opposition after reading several statements which said that Pacific Islanders were generally in favour of the tour. “The National Council of Churches recently held a Consultation of 40 Pacific Islanders, representative of all church traditions and of no church tradition at all, and they made a unanimous statement against the tour,” he said. Dr Brash said that the Consultation had been held in Otara last month, but had not been publicised.
