Indonesian export order for U. E. B.
UEB Industries, Ltd. has begun delivery of a $500,000 carpet order for two major hotels in Indonesia. More than 200 rolls of allwool tufted and woven carpet are destined for the Sheraton in Jakarta, and the new Hotel Tiara which is scheduled to open in July in Medan. Sumatra. "The contracts represent a large-scale entry for the company into the Indonesian market ” and might be the forerunner of further substantial business.” said Mr W. A. Larsen, head of marketing operations for UEB’s carpet division. The Sheraton in Jakarta is owned by the Hotel Indonesian International Corpora-
lion, which recommended UEB to the owners of the Tiara. The corporation also owns the luxurious Bali Beach Hotel in Bali, and it was through this that Bremworth estalished its first export link with Indonesia. “We had successfully negotiated to supply carpet for the bar areas of the Bali Beach and our relationship with the corporation grew from- that point.” he said Mr Graeme Wilson. UEB's area sales manager for Indonesia, went to Jakarta last October and again in January. The principals of the two hotel groups visited Auckland in February and March to complete the new contracts.
The order for the Hotel Tiara was virtually a turnkey operation, said’ Mr Larsen. "The contract includes the supply of rubber underlay, all fixing materials, and the services of a carpet laying specialist who will go to Medan from Auckland. In effect we are controlling the whole deal, from the making of the carpet through till the laying has been completed." Ashley Wallcoverings, Ltd, a UEB subsidiary, was also involved in the Sheraton contract. It supplied more than $20,000 worth of vinyl wallcovering for use ’in the hotel's refurbishing programme.
