Man discharged
’ Craig Frederick Cox, aged 29, unemployed, was discharged under section 347 of the Crimes Act by Mr Justice Cook in the High Court yesterday. Cox had been committed to the High Court for trial on a charge of attempted burglary of the shop of Mrs Pope, Ltd. in Kaiapoi on August 23, 1980. after depositions were taken in the District Court at Rangiora on December 3, 1980. The discharge is the equivalent of an acquittal. Mr R. B. Venning appeared for Cox, and Mr D. J. L Saunders for the Crown. His Honour said that after having read the depositions
and heard submissions by both counsel he considered that there was merit in the application for the discharge under section 347 and he directed that no indictment be presented against Cox.
