Lost yacht found

A 13m yacht was towed to Lyttelton Harbour on Sunday morning after being found adrift off the North Canterbury coast without fuel and with its sails blown out. A police spokesman said no official rescue attempt was begun for the Atarau and its position was not known by the crew when they called by radio for help. A crew member was able to contact a Christchurh radio ham on Saturday after-

noon and he reported that the yacht was out of fuel with four persons aboard. An aircraft was chartered by the owner of the vessel, Mr R. V. Spinks, of Sumner, to try to find the yacht, but it was unsuccessful. The research vessel, the Acheron, found the Atarau, using radio bearings, and took her in tow. A Nelson fishing boat, the Hawea, took over and completed the tow.
